Networking
The idea is simple. Using it is essential.
Everyone you know is a contact, whether
friend, family member or business associate. But it only
begins there. Each of those
people have their own network of contacts that in turn have
their own network. Using your
network is perhaps the most effective way of finding a job
opening that suits you.
Define Your Network
Write down
all your potential contacts, such as:
- Social
Organizations – including golf clubs, churches, health clubs,
PTA, and classes.
- Professional and Trade – these contacts often provide the basis for a
recruiter’s research.
- Other people
looking for work – who helped them?
- Family and
Friends – let them work for you.
- College alumni, professors, career centers
- Real Estate Broker
- Banker
Identify Which Contacts Are:
- Likely to
produce leads.
- Worth contacting immediately.
- Better contacted later.
How it Works:
Make it clear to your contact the kind of job you desire and the
qualifications you bring. Ask the contact if they can
suggest the name of someone in a position to hire and if they
might pass along your name.
