Mr. Hagstrom attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Master's and Ph.D. Since joining Hamilton College in 1991, Hagstrom has published many papers, mainly focusing on his interest and teaching field, "The Economics of Poverty." Currently, he is working on research on “The Effect of Immigrant Networks on Immigrant Entrepreneurship,” and “The Role of Immigrant Networks in Mitigating the Impact Financial Shocks.”
He currently serves as the chair of the Economics department and has served as the director of the college's Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center. He continues his association with the Levitt Center by working with students interested in social entrepreneurship.
