Five Questions With Talent Acquisition Leader Ryan Gifford

What inspires you?
Those who have achieved a truly “balanced self.” I am inspired by many of my co-workers who have managed to balance fantastic careers, children, spouses and activities outside of work.

What would you gladly wake up at dawn or stay up past midnight to do?
As an avid outdoorsman, my adventures almost always force me to wake up early and stay out late. Whether it’s working on my winter 46er or bass fishing in my kayak, I’m always trying to maximize my time outside!

Who were your mentors?
My parents are both public servants. My father is a police officer and my mother is a teacher. Growing up they both taught me foundational core values and how it’s important to take pride in your work. Most importantly, they showed me how rewarding it is to be driven by the ability to make a difference in the lives of others.

What is your personal motto?
“All it takes is one.” Here at Utica National I began my career assisting with the corporate idea program and that really cemented my motto that “all it takes is one.” Many times all it takes is one great idea to make a huge impact or one person speaking up to get a group to think differently.

What is the quality you most admire in a person?
Empathy. The ability to truly put yourself in someone else’s shoes shows a deep human connection and results in some amazing experiences.
