Dr. Hagstrom attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Masters and Ph.D. Since joining Hamilton College in 1991, Hagstrom has published many papers, mainly focusing on his interest and teaching field, “ The Economics of Poverty”; recent work focuses on the concept of financial inclusion, mobility, and economic integration of refugees in the United States. His current work focuses on the quality of affordable housing.

He has served as the Chair of the Economics Department and as the Director of the college’s Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center. He was recently named the Leonard C. Ferguson Professor of Economics.
